MISSION

Eighteenth Avenue Family Enrichment Center (EAFEC) empowers and enriches the lives of children and families to strengthen the community.

VISION

Eighteenth Avenue Family Enrichment Center (EAFEC) envisions being a key resource for families so children can be successful in school and in life as they live in enriched communities.

BRIEF HISTORY

EAFEC is an early childhood education facility providing age appropriate learning while enriching quality of life through holistic environments for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. The organization was founded in 1934 as the Negro Youth Work Commitee with the mission to provide wholesome recreational programs for male youths. Its mission has expanded to include services that make a difference in the lives of families and individuals and is a central part of the community, providing services that touch the lives of people of all ages.

The major program of EAFEC is early education which represents the largest expenditure in the organization's budget. Eligibility for the program is based upon need. Some families qualify through a voucher program from the Department of Human Services (DHS) and others through a partnership with the Office of Early Head Start. A majority of the children fall in this category and the remaining category encompasses middle class families. EAFEC partners with other organizations to offer summer programming serving children ages six to twelve.

ORGANIZATIONAL GOALS

  • To promote safe, stable, rich, and nurturing environments for children and families.
  • To support the holistic development of children: physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
  • To help children develop a positive self image and build interdependence
  • To help children and families make a smooth transition to formal school systems.

BEFORE JOINING THE EAFEC FAMILY

Eligibility
Children between the ages of 6 weeks to 12 years are eligible to enroll at EAFEC. We do not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, creed, ability, or religious beliefs. We aim to honor the lived experiences of all people through our practices.
All children are assessed to ensure EAFEC’s services are sufficient for optimal development and success. After the evaluation, the EAFEC family will determine if our organization is the optimal place for your family given your child’s and family’s needs. If we determine we do not have the service for optimal success, we will provide all the accommodations necessary to pair you with an organization with the resources to holistically support your child’s development and your family’s success.

Application
Please fill out the EAFEC Enrollment Application. All necessary paperwork must be received before the child can be introduced to the Classroom Family.

Waiting List
EAFEC maintains a waiting list of applicants ordered by date of inquiry, receipt of required information, and space availability. Some priority will be given to siblings of children already enrolled or families with extenuating circumstances.
