BRIEF HISTORY
EAFEC is an early childhood education facility providing age appropriate learning while enriching quality of life through holistic environments for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. The organization was founded in 1934 as the Negro Youth Work Commitee with the mission to provide wholesome recreational programs for male youths. Its mission has expanded to include services that make a difference in the lives of families and individuals and is a central part of the community, providing services that touch the lives of people of all ages.
The major program of EAFEC is the early education program which represents the largest expenditure in the organization’s budget. Eligibility for the program is based upon need. Some families qualify through a voucher program from the Department of Human Services (DHS) and others through a partnership with the Office of Early Head Start. A majority of the children fall in this category and the remaining category encompasses middle class families. EAFEC partners with other organizations to offer summer programming serving children ages six to twelve.
